Consistency vs Perfection

What Actually Gets Results

One of the biggest misconceptions in fitness is that you need perfect weeks to get results.

Perfect training. Perfect nutrition. Perfect routine.

But in reality, perfection is not what creates change, consistency does...And consistency doesn’t look perfect at all.

What perfection actually looks like

A “perfect” fitness week might look like:

  • 5–6 gym sessions

  • Clean eating every day

  • No missed workouts

  • Strict control over everything

Sounds ideal… but it’s not sustainable for most people. Because life doesn’t run on perfect conditions.

Work gets busy. Plans change. Energy drops. Social events happen.

And the moment perfection breaks, most people fall off completely.

What consistency actually looks like

Consistency is:

  • Training 3–4 times per week most weeks

  • Eating well most of the time

  • Adapting when life gets busy instead of quitting

  • Not restarting every time you slip up

Consistency is flexible, not rigid. And because it’s flexible, it lasts.

Why consistency wins long-term

Your body doesn’t respond to one perfect week. It responds to repeated behaviour over time.

That means:

  • 12 consistent weeks will always beat 2 perfect ones

  • Showing up at 70% effort consistently beats 100% effort occasionally

How to build real consistency

If you struggle with consistency, try this:

  • Stop restarting your week after one “bad” meal or missed session

  • Focus on your next action, not your last mistake

  • Aim for “good enough” instead of perfect

  • Build routines you can repeat on busy weeks

Because the goal isn’t to be perfect. The goal is to be consistent enough that results have no choice but to show up.
